Too many decisions

Trying to make a decision is really hard especially when you have to choose out of a lot of good ideas. My boyfriend, Ed and I are discussing where we want to do on our vacation in the next three weeks. The ironic thing is we keep up coming up with more and more ideas on what to do instead of whittling them down.

To help with this quandry, I should reread the book, Blink in where you make decisions on impulses and you just choose.

Maybe instead of reading we should place our choices all in one hat and pick them from there. No scientific logic behind it, but it would be fun.

YAI

I was asked by Ed to present with him at the Young Adult International Conference next year in May 2011. It would be a panel discussion and Ed would also have his friends Carolyn and Bill present as well.

I'm so excited that Ed asked me to present with him. I think the main reason is I'm looking forward to it is that I have the privilege to present along side someone that I care about and is brilliant in the special education field.

Additionally, I have never presented at a conference before. I'm looking forward to doing it because it would give me some valuable experience and I would expand my horizons.

My portion of the presentation would center in on academic library services to the mentally challenged community.

YAI here I come.

Miss you

It's almost a month left before our student workers come back to work as well as the rest of the student population.

I miss them. Even though we complain about them, their presence is missed when we have to do the mundane chores such as changing paper in the printers, checking out books, helping patrons find a book and giving directions.

Sure I am one to work, but I do not want to spend the whole summer doing that. Anyway, I am counting the days until they are back.

Fight Club

I watched Fight Club with my boyfriend Ed. This was my second time seeing it, for Ed his first.

Do not let the title FightClub fool you. Yes a majority of it deals with fighting, but a psychological theme is the main plotof the story. In it Ed Norton's character is not happy who he is and he creates an alter ego, Brad Pitt who is strong, handsome, everything he is not. In doing so, Brad Pitt's character eventually takes over and mayhem erupts.

DO we all want to become someone else and give up the God given personality that he gave us? Do we all crave attention until we can not handle it and become worse off than we were when beginning?

We should live by St. Francis DeSales and be who we are and be that well. I know that I'm going to be the best librarian I know that I could be.

Novenas

Growing up Catholic I do believe in the divine intercessions of novenas. A novena is a form of devotion made up of prayers repeated over and over over a period of nine days in which we ask for an answer to one of our problems.

I said many novenas in my life. This past week a student asked if I wanted one of her novena cards. She said it looked like I needed one. She told me it worked when her aunt recovered after a lengthy illness. She gave me two.

The ironic thing a special friend's mom is not doing so well so in a sense the student saw their need through me.

After she gave me the cards, I did not see her anymore nor did I see her leave the building.

Was the Holy Spirit working through this young woman? Was there divine intervention? I believe there was because it was a way to give hope for someone who is running low on it.

How many of us have been touched by novenas and did not know it?

Somethings are worth sharing

Somethings one does not show the outside world. For me things like presentations where my whole being is vulnerable, written papers, goofy mementos, journals and any private thought, that in my mind if shown would bring rejection. However, as we begin knowing others, this invisible wall breaks down and we slowly allow others a glimpse into our psyche.

In addition, this blog for instance is another way we allow people into our lives. From the outside, it is a splattering of the days events, but from the insiders point of view, it is more than that; a journey into the recess of someone's mind and soul. This blog is also a communication mechanism for expressing what is good and bad in the world

I have recently begun taking this journey and removing obstacles and allowing special people like Ed into my soul. It is hard and scary, but each time a piece of me has been revealed, it is easier the next time around.

For those of you reading this blog entry, have you experienced this same sentiment? If so, how do you handle it?

Legislative day

Last week, I attended Legislative Day for libraries. It started with a boring rally which was indicative by the fact that the emcee for the event was a children's librarian who read down to us from her politically correct book. It did not make matters better that is was close to 100 degrees.

We also met with Charlie Dent, Sen. Casey's aide, and Sen. Specters aide. By the end of the day, I was pooped for I think the heat made me tired.

Even though it was a tiring day, we received a serendipitous tour of the senate library. The librarian was gracious and full of energy; so, I do appreciate the fact that she took time out of her busy schedule to accommodate us. With that said, I was too tired to revel in her generosity.

I did carry the Pennsylvania sign which nobody from CNN, Fox News or NPR saw for the event was not televised. There had to be about roughly 400 people in attendance.

The best part of the day was having a ride home from Ed who dropped me off and picked me up from the 30th street station. It was priceless.

Morning Call article

After six months of waiting for the Morning Call to place my book profile in the paper, they finally did. I was so appreciative and I became a celebrity for a day.

July Fourth Weekend

Since my last entry, I felt there was a lot of activity going on in my life. I finished up economics class, went to Oregon for a week, D.C. for legislative day, and in this all I'm finally getting back to a regular routine.

Before I knew it, the July fourth weekend was upon me and realized half of the summer was gone.

THis past weekend I had one of the best fourth of July weekends ever. There was no picnic; however, I spent time with Ed and watched the fireworks from his backyard. I enjoyed it immensely. It was just the two of us which felt like were the only ones in the world. It would have been weird if it was as a mass of humanity descended upon us after the fireworks were over.
